During the second half of 2019/20 SWTSA successfully applied for £43,350 of funding for a cluster of 13 secondary schools from across Devon. The funding provided by the National Lottery is to be used to offer specialist training to schools with the aim to better meet the needs of all children, irrespective of their level of sporting ability, and to involve them in shaping the sporting opportunities that are provided.
So far the 13 schools have worked together to write a cluster action plan and individual mini plans for their school. The funds will be allocated across three tiers: school release time; school cpd; and cluster cpd.
So far, we have run leadership training with the intention of appointing student ‘Active Ambassadors’ to act as role models and leaders for Physical Activity, PE and Sport across the schools. We’ve also hosted sessions on curriculum design; gymnastics; strength and conditioning and orienteering. With further sessions on girls rugby; tennis; boy’s street dance and yoga planned for the Autumn term. The cluster aims to increase knowledge and confidence of PE staff to ensure students have positive experiences in their PE lessons.
The project aims to be completed by Easter 2022. Please check back here for further updates.
